David Coulthard, Chris Harris and Sabine Schmitz will join Chris Evans on the newly revamped Top Gear, according to reports.

The Radio 2 DJ has picked ex formula one driver Coulthard and two relatively unknown names for the BBC motoring show.

According to The Sun motoring journalist Harris, who runs the YouTube channel, Chris Harris On Cars, will be among those replacing James May and Richard Hammond.

German racing driver Schmitz previously raced for Porsche and BMW. She appeared on Top Gear in December 2004 to race former host Jeremy Clarkson round Germany’s Nurburgring.

A Top Gear insider told The Sun: "Sabine and Chris are virtually unknown to the wider public and David isn't the most charismatic driver."

Rumoured presenters Jodie Kidd, Zoe Ball and Suzi Perry all ruled themselves out earlier this year.

The reports follow the news that the show's executive producer Lisa Clark has stepped down.

Confirming her departure less than five months after landing the role, Clark said: “After an extremely busy five months I am moving on from Top Gear to new projects which I will be announcing in the new year. I’d like to wish production all the very best with the show.”

A BBC statement read: "We'd like to thank Lisa for all her incredible work over the last five months readying new Top Gear for its busy filming schedule in 2016 and planned return in May."

The new look Top Gear is set to launch on May 8, 2016.
