Anchorman actor Will Ferrell opened up about his love for Downton Abbey actress Dame Maggie Smith during an interview which saw him accompanied by a white cockatoo called Professor Feathers.

Ferrell, 47, was on US chat show Conan to talk about his new film Get Hard when he revealed his love for Smith.

Conan told Ferrell that Into The Woods actress Meryl Streep has the “biggest crush” on him to which he replied: “You know what, I'm so flattered by that. I mean, she is our most beloved actress? - actor, period.”

But despite feeling flattered the comedian revealed that there is another woman in his life.

“No I'm already betrothed to Maggie Smith,” he said. “I’m more of a Maggie Smith fan. Well, we've already done it. In foggy London town.”

He joked: “I got my butler outfit on and we did a little Downton Abbey if you know what I mean.”

The actor – who was recently presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – also spoke about playing the cowbell in a musical collaboration with Snoop Dogg.

“How could I say no to Snoop Dogg? But I think it should be a compilation album with me on the cowbell and Drake and Gwen Stefani, Pharrell, Blake Shelton," he said. "Cover all types of music. All with the cowbell.”

The Elf actor also ruled out starring alongside Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller in the much anticipated Zoolander 2.

Ferrell, who starred as villain Jacobim Mugatu in the 2001 hit comedy, joked that the reason he won't be starring is because bosses wouldn't let him bring Professor Feathers on set.
