Fans of Britney Spears should be applauded after apparently stopping the pop princess from litter violations by picking her disposed gum off the streets - before selling it on eBay.

Besotted fans are going to extreme lengths to earn money off the back of their idol by collecting the used gum from where ever she sees fit to leave it and then selling it on the auction site.

More than two dozen auctions are currently on eBay with the highest bid so far recorded at £14,000.

With authenticity being an issue, fans have tried to guarantee prospective ‘Britney gummers’, that their gum has indeed past the lips of the sultry 22-year-old by including photos of the item, a copy of a ticket stub from where they discovered the offending item and a personal story of procurement.

The term ‘trash’ has never been more apt.
