Banks do it. Newspapers do it. Pop stars do it. Now it's the turn of the country's restaurants to join in raising funds for Unicef's Children's Emergency Tsunami Appeal.

On Monday 7 February, restaurants and wine bars around the UK will take part in Unichef, an event that has captured the imagination of chefs and restaurant owners country-wide.

In just four weeks, some 200 restaurants have signed up to join in, from a tea room on the Isle of Arron, to celebrity hangouts The Ivy and Zuma in London’s West End.

Unlike traditional fundraising initiatives, it's not the customers who will be asked to donate — it's the restaurants who will be footing the charity bill and each of the 200 participants ha agreed to donate a percentage of their takings on that evening.

Funds raised on the night will go to support Unicef's long-term reconstruction and development work in the tsunami-affected countries. The more customers drink, the more money will be raised for Unicef's tsunami appeal.

Final bookings are still being taken. CLICK HERE for a list of participating restaurants.
