She was famous for transforming herself into an ugly, overweight serial killer for the film Monster.

But no trace of Theron's depiction of Aileen Wuornos could be seen as she worked the red carpet before the screening of her new film.

Earlier in the day the 33-year-old South African looked stunning in a shocking pink dress as she made her entrance in Venice by boat, to a pack of waiting photographers.

Theron won an Oscar in 2003 for her role in Monster but her own lfie has been packed with drama.

When she was just 15 she witnessed her mother shoot her father dead at the family home in South Africa. Her mother opened fire on her husband in self-defence against his domestic violence.

Theron now lives in Los Angeles with her Irish actor boyfriend Stuart Townsend.
