Natasha Bedingfield took top honours today at the star-studded 95.8 Capital FM Awards.

The singer, who was nominated for four Brits this year but failed to win one, was named London's Favourite UK Newcomer by listeners of the radio station. Her chart-topping track These Words was best single.

Other winners included Jamelia, who was named best female singer over Bedingfield, Joss Stone and Beverley Knight.

The award will come as a welcome relief to the 24- year- o ld's record label bosses.

They are said to be in crisis talks after it emerged that she appeared in a video for notorious Birmingham gang the Burger Bar Boys. The revelations-Awards.

came 24 hours after she said her own half-brother, Tumbi Beckford, has been jailed for a gangland murder and insisted she was " disgusted" by gun crime.

The Capital Awards, hosted by DJs Neil Fox and Johnny Vaughan at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, also saw Lemar named best male singer over Daniel Bedingfield, George Michael and Will Young.

Keane were best UK group and teenage soul sensation Joss Stone won best album, for her second LP Mind, Body and Soul.

The Scissor Sisters won best international artist.

Other categories included best West End show, which was scooped by Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Best TV show was The X-Factor. Listeners emerged overwhelmingly as Arsenal fans - with the Gunners named favourite sports team.
