Marilyn Manson has been rushed to hospital after a large prop fell on him during a performance.

The rock star was performing at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday night when the prop, two giant guns, collapsed onto him.

Video footage posted on Twitter appears to show a scaffolding rig that was supporting the pistols topple towards the front of the stage onto the singer.

Witnesses said Manson had just begun climbing the stage scenery while performing Sweet Dreams when the incident happened.

Anthony Biscardi, who was at the concert, told the BBC that fans "instantly freaked out".

He said: "He was performing the [Eurythmics] song Sweet Dreams. Towards the middle of the song it seemed as though he tried climbing onto a prop.

"The first touch of weight on those poles and it came crashing down onto him."

Several people rushed on to the stage and it reportedly took several minutes to remove the prop before Manson was stretchered off stage.

It is not known how seriously he was injured.

Immediately after the incident, the venue went dark and the music stopped. The rest of the concert was cancelled.

A representative told Rolling Stone magazine: "Manson suffered an injury towards the end of his incredible NYC show.

“He is being treated at a local hospital."
