Comedian Chris Langham has been arrested by detectives investigating allegations of child porn.

Langham, who was named best TV comedy actor this week, was held after a raid on his home in Cranbrook, Kent.

Officers seized a personal computer before taking him 18 miles away to Tonbridge police station in Kent for questioning. He was later released on bail.

Langham, the star of BBC2 show The Thick Of It, failed to pick up his gong at the British Comedy Awards because he was said to be suffering from glandular fever.

Today, the 56-year-old father of five said he was arrested by detectives 17 days ago and released on bail until February.

In a statement issued through his solicitors, he added: "I was arrested by police in an inquiry into offences relating to computer use. I have not been charged with any offence and have made no admission to criminal acts.

"I ask that you respect the privacy of my family for whom this event has been extremely traumatic."

Langham, married to musical director Christine Cartwright, beat Ricky Gervais to the award.
