Zac Efron has revealed that he was ‘going crazy’ before he went into rehab.

The High School Musical star, who last year sought treatment twice for a cocaine addiction, says that he first realised he had a problem when he couldn’t get through the week without a ‘social lubricant’.

The actor opened up about his problems while filming the NBC show “Running Wild with Bear Grylls”, and he talked about struggling to come to terms with his fame.

Speaking on the show, Efron said: "You spend a lot of time in your house going crazy, you know pretty soon you need a social lubricant. Once I needed that, it became to go anywhere. It was getting to the point where I was caring less about the work and waiting more for the weekend, where I couldn't wait to go out and sort of let loose and have fun.”

When talking about his quick rise to fame, Efron explained: "You know it was just so quick, it's shocking, you know what I mean. The challenging part was never the work, it was sort of the in between work, the social aspects outside of it."

The actor, who has recently been in films such as Bad Neighbours, has told that he’s now embraced a relax lifestyle in a bid to remain sober.

“I just really never again want to have to take anything from the outside in to me to feel good about my outside, [I want] to be comfortable in my present skin, and that takes a lot of work. It's just meditation and stopping, slowing down your brain."
