Agassi pulls out

14 April 2012

Andre Agassi has withdrawn from next week's ATP Western & Southern Financial Group Masters because of persistent back pain.

The 36-year-old, who will be retiring after the US Open later this month, informed the tournament of his decision after practicing on Saturday.

"Andre is reluctantly unable to play," tournament director Bruce Flory said. "He had every intention of playing but just didn't feel physically right in his practice sessions here."

He added: "We hate to lose any player, especially one who was to make his final appearance here, but with the stellar field we have in Cincinnati, highlighted by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the tournament will still be spectacular."
