Andrew upset at Saracens tactics

13 April 2012

Rob Andrew blasted Saracens after his Newcastle side were beaten 34-29 in their final Zurich Premiership game of the season.

In a rousing finale the Falcons scored two late tries through George Graham and Doddie Weir.

But Andrew insisted Saracens had cheated his side out of a win that could have handed Newcastle a home tie in the forthcoming play-offs.

Andrew said: "If all they can do is kick drop goals and cheat in the second half by going down (injured) for a few minutes then I'm not bothered."

There was further bad news for Andrew when England stand-off Jonny Wilkinson limped out of the action midway through the second half and is now a concern for next week's European Shield semi-final against Harlequins.

Newcastle assistant coach Steve Bates said: "The injury is a recurrence of a bruise on his left shoulder.

"With the fixtures coming thick and fast it is difficult to give him the required rest that his injury needs to clear up.

"In the past it has recovered in two days but with the European Shield next week it is a worry.

"We have sent him for scans and there are no long-term problems. Maybe we will have to just calm him down in defence."
