Arsenal boy wonder Simpson on wanted list

13 April 2012

Jay Simpson showed why Millwall want to the keep the Arsenal wonder boy for the season. Midfielder Simpson, 19, brought a superb save from home keeper Clayton Ince with a blistering 20-yard shot and was inches wide with another effort from the edge of the box.

But Walsall could have grabbed the winner after 83 minutes. Troy Deeney shook off defender Zak Whitbread only to see his shot trickle wide of the far post.

Deeney's strike partner Alex Nicholls nearly plundered a goal straight from the restart. He beat three men only to see his shot beaten away by keeper Lenny Pidgeley.

Walsall manager Richard Money said: "Fair play to Millwall. They defended well with their lives."

Kenny Jackett, the Millwall boss, said: "Walsall put a lot of pressure on us."
