England shooter Steve Scott beat compatriot Matthew French to secure gold in a dramatic double trap final at the Commonwealth Games, to follow Charlotte Kerwood's success.

With Olympic champion Peter Wilson not competing in Glasgow 2014, England's medal hopes rested with Scott, 29 from Sussex, and 33-year-old French of Oxford.

And the duo did not disappoint, hitting 27 out of their 30 targets in the semi-final to go into a three-way shoot-off with India's Asab Mohb to reach the gold-medal match.

Mohb was first to miss, guaranteeing a British one-two and a second gold of the day following Charlotte Kerwood's success in the women's event a couple of hours earlier.

And it was Scott, a pairs winner at Delhi four years ago, who triumphed against Commonwealth rookie French in a final of incredible quality.

French dropped just one clay out of 30 but Scott nailed every one to secure gold.

Kerwood won her first gold at Manchester 2002 aged just 15, and would probably have more in her collection had the event not been excluded in Delhi last time out.

The 27-year-old from Sussex was in devastating form at the Barry Buddon Centre in Dundee, nailing 94 of her 120 clays to claim her third individual Commonwealth gold medal.

She finished two shots clear of India's Shreyasi Singh, who claimed silver.

Rachel Parish, with whom Kerwood also won pairs gold at Melbourne 2006, made it a medal double for England by taking bronze.

The 33-year-old from Nottingham finished level with Canada's Cynthia Meyer on 91 and triumphed in a sudden-death shoot-off.
