Aurelio to miss 'three to four months'

12 April 2012

Liverpool have confirmed Fabio Aurelio will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in Tuesday night's Champions League win over PSV Eindhoven.

The Brazilian left-back fell to the ground clutching his leg during the second half of the Reds' 3-0 quarter-final first-leg win at the Philips Stadium.

The 28-year-old underwent a scan and was told he could be out of action for up to four months.

Club spokesman Ian Cotton said: "A scan has confirmed a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in Fabio's right leg.

"The player will undergo surgery and is expected to be out for approximately three to four months."

The injury comes at a time when Aurelio, signed from Valencia last summer, had just started to establish himself in the first team after an indifferent start to his Anfield career.

Only this week he was quoted as saying that he now felt settled on Merseyside and was looking forward to a good run in the team after a number of injuries.

Liverpool return to action against Reading on Saturday before facing PSV in the return leg next Wednesday.
