Jonny Bairstow returned for England in tonight's first Twenty20 match against Pakistan in Dubai.

England, 3-0 Test losers but 4-0 one-day international winners on this tour, retained Kevin Pietersen in the opening batting spot which has revitalised his 50-over career - with Bairstow listed at number five.

Pietersen is expected to open alongside Craig Kieswetter, with Alex Hales dropped after figuring at the top of the order in England's last four Twenty20s.

Ravi Bopara also returned, after missing the final ODI victory with a back injury two days ago. But there is no place for ODI captain Alastair Cook.

Stuart Broad won the toss and chose to bowl first against opponents who named two debutants - opening batsman Awais Zia, uncapped in any format, and all-rounder Hammad Azam.

Umar Gul is fit again, in a two-man pace attack alongside Pakistan's spinners.
