Bangladesh facing mammoth task

12 April 2012

Bangladesh were left facing an uphill struggle to salvage something from their second Test with India after losing five quick wickets in the final session of day two.

In response to India's mammoth total of 610 for three declared, the hosts wilted under the pressure and the heat to reach a dismal 58 for five in their first innings.

India's total included hundreds for Wasim Jaffer, Karthik Dinesh, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar - the first time in Test history the top four batsmen in a team's line-up have scored centuries in the same innings.

The first wicket fell for Bangladesh with just one run on the board, Javed Omar (nought) edging a Zaheer Khan to Karthik at first slip.

Habibul Bashar (four), Shahriar Nafees (two) and Mohammad Ashraful (nought) quickly followed to leave the hosts reeling on seven for four.

Rajin Saleh and Shakib Al Hasan briefly halted the rot with a fifth-wicket stand of 33, but the former misjudged a delivery from Anil Kumble on 20, with Jaffer taking the catch at short leg.

Al Hasan was 30 not out at stumps, with Mohammad Sharif yet to get off the mark.
