Black Cats net striker

12 April 2012

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has signed Cork striker Roy O'Donovan for an undisclosed fee.

The Black Cats have pursued the forward, 22 on Friday, for the last few weeks with Fulham also having been interested in acquiring the Republic of Ireland 'B' international.

However, he has become Keane's eighth summer signing after signing a three-year deal.

O'Donovan admitted Keane's influence made him choose Sunderland over Fulham.

"This is a big challenge for me and when the chance came about, I didn't think twice," he told the club's website, www.safc.com.

"I had a choice between Fulham and Sunderland but when I spoke to the gaffer my mind was made up. I had a knack for scoring goals in Ireland and I have to continue that at Sunderland."
