Boro land Woodgate and Huth

12 April 2012

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate on Wednesday pulled off a double transfer coup when he finally landed Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth.

The 26-year-old Real Madrid defender and his Chelsea counterpart have both signed for the club after successfully undergoing medicals and completing negotiations on Teesside.

Woodgate joins on a season's loan with an option to buy, while Huth has belatedly completed a £6million permanent move and has signed a five-year contract.

Southgate said: "We have added two international defenders to our squad in one afternoon.

"That's a significant coup for Middlesbrough and a big boost for everyone at the club.

"Both players feel they have a point to prove - and the great thing is that they want to do that with Middlesbrough. I'm absolutely delighted."
