Brendan Rodgers tells Liverpool fans he doesn't expect to be making January signings

Brendan Rodgers has warned Liverpool fans not to expect much activity in the January transfer window after he saw his side comfortably defeat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Despite his previous statement that he would look to add another goalkeeper to the side the Liverpool manager does not expect to be delving deep into owners Fenway Sports Group’s fund.

He said: “January will be quiet for us, unless we think there is something that can really improve our team and then the owners will look to do that.”

Simon Mignolet had looked nervy in goal in what was otherwise an easy three points away from home however, with Victor Valdes having signed for Manchester United, Rodgers may struggle to find quality in the January market.

Summer purchase Lazar Markovic had a particularly impressive game, scoring the only goal and posing a constant threat to the home side.

However the manager was delighted with the performance of every player on the pitch.

Reacting to a win that has taken the Reds four points off the top-four, Rodgers said: "It was an outstanding team performance today. We had great control of the game but I suppose the only disappointment is we did not have more goals," he added.

"Our confidence is returning, this is a team that gets better and better as it goes on. It is a young group but they are developing very well."
