Brixham scraped through to the third round in a thriller. Fly half Ben Lovell's second half penalty proved the difference in the end after Brixham, who had led 21-0, were almost overwhelmed by a temendous Devonport fightback.

Two tries from No 8 Garteth Williams, who scored six in the first round 75-0 thrashing of Kingsbridge, and one from flanker Marcus Blagdon which were all converted by Lovell gave Brixham their cushion until Devonport's running game began to make its mark.

But Williams completed his hat-trick and Lovell struck his vital penalty as Dvonport came back into contention with tries from flanker Michael Rowe, fly half Peter Evans, centre David Hall and Richard Hewitt.

Full back Hewitt kicked three conversions but missed a simple penalty in the dying minutes which would have taken Devonport through with the teams level on tries and penalties.
