True colours: Mark Cavendish is determined to keep hold of the green jersey

Mark Cavendish set his sights on winning two more stages of the Tour de France going into today's leg after claiming the points classification leader's green jersey for the first time.

The 26-year-old HTC-Highroad rider secured the 18th Tour stage success of his career yesterday to take a 16-point lead in the race for the maillot vert.

Cavendish now has 251 points, with Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar) in second place on 235 and Philippe Gilbert third on 231 (Omega Pharma-Lotto).

"There are only two stages left with bunch sprints, in Montpellier and Paris," said Cavendish, who won yesterday's 104-mile 11th stage from Blaye-les-Mines to Lavaur despite having to adjust his shoe in the final 600 metres.

"I want to win both of them. It's not easy fighting for the green jersey but I'm going to keep going and try to keep hold of it right through to the end."

Today Cavendish would have been happy to just get through the Pyrenees unscathed during the 131-mile stage from Cugnaux to Luz-Ardiden.

Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) held the race leader's yellow jersey but overall contenders Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck were expected to come to the fore today.
