Chaloner moves into semis

Mark Chaloner defeated former champion Paul Johnson 15-13, 15-9, 10-15, 15-13 to reach his second successive National Championships semifinal in Manchester.

Chaloner looked to be heading for a comfortable victory after taking the first two sets but slipped up in the third as Johnson fought back but he held his nerve to take the match.

In the women's event, Cassie Campion progressed to the semifinals with a 9-2, 9-2, 9-2 win over Janie Thacker.

Campion said: "I was disappointed to miss this event last year but I'm back as No1 seed, so the pressure's on me."
