Clubs cannot sway Hughes

13 April 2012

Mark Hughes sees no reason why he should not lead Wales into the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign next year, regardless of what happens in their Euro 2004 play-off with Russia.

Hughes takes his squad to Moscow tomorrow for Saturday's first leg against the Russians, aware that he is being linked with a string of club management jobs, including Tottenham.

It is a situation that worries Wales fans, who fear Hughes may move into club management if he fails to guide the country into the Euro 2004 finals.

But Hughes said: "I am contracted until 2006 so someone will have to tell me something different. There is always speculation but I don't see my job description changing.

"I would like to think what I have done would go some way to me staying. I am not anticipating making any such decision myself."

Simon Davies is out of tomorrow's clash and could miss Wednesday's second leg with a groin problem. Mark Pembridge (calf) is doubtful but Robbie Savage should recover from a hamstring problem to play.
