Ireland's 2015 cup boost

Chance: ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat
10 April 2012

Ireland will be given the chance to play in the next World Cup if the ICC rubber-stamp plans for a new one-day international league.

The governing body plan to introduce a home and away competition among the Test-playing nations, with the teams who perform the worst forced to play qualifying matches against Associate nations for a place in the 2015 World Cup.

The next World Cup will contain 10 teams. ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: "The Associates have been disappointed by the 10-team World Cup but this gives them the chance to qualify for it."
