New Zealand lost five runs without scoring as they made a shocking start to the Second Test against South Africa in Hamilton today.

The hosts, who scraped a draw in the rain-hit First Test, slumped from 133 for two to 133 for seven in just over 15 minutes during the final session.

Brendon McCullum (61) sparked the collapse when he hooked a Dale Steyn bouncer straight to Jacques Rudolph at deep backward square.

Ross Taylor (44) was next to go, prodding at a straight delivery from Vernon Philander to Graeme Smith at first slip. Smith held another catch to dismiss Kane Williamson (0), Daniel Vettori (0) played around a Philander delivery and was bowled and Doug Bracewell (0) feathered a catch to wicketkeeper Mark Boucher three balls later.

New Zealand were all out for 185 but they finished the day strongly, reducing South Africa to 27 for two at the close of play.
