Windies waste little time in seeing off Bangladesh

10 April 2012

West Indies battered Bangladesh by nine wickets today as they knocked off the 59 runs needed for victory in only 12.2 overs.

Sulieman Benn took four wickets with captain Darren Sammy using only three bowlers. Opener Chris Gayle hit 37 as the West Indies reached the target with only Devon Smith losing his wicket.

The win lifts West Indies above England, who face South Africa on Sunday, in the Group B table.

Andrew Strauss's men will have mixed feelings at seeing such a one-sided contest at Mirpur as they need to win two of their three games, against the Proteas, Bangladesh and the West Indies, to have a realistic chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
