Davies hoping for French master hat-trick

14 April 2012

Britain's Laura Davies set her sights on becoming the first three-times winner of the Evian French Masters after an opening round eight-under-par 64.

With seven birdies and an eagle, the 1995 and 1996 champion goes into today's second round with a two-shot advantage over world No1 Annika Sorenstam, Spain's Marta Prieto and New Zealand's Lynnette Brooky.

Michelle Wie, the 14-year-old American amateur who gained a special invitation, is on one under par.

Davies spent last week working as an on-course television commentator at Royal Troon. She said: "I just concentrated on hitting it smoothly and it certainly worked."
