Dwyer calls for a cover-up

Barbarians coach Bob Dwyer has urged the Welsh Rugby Union to close the roof of the Millennium Stadium for the match with South Africa on Sunday.

The decision by the WRU not to close the roof during Wales' Test match with South Africa dumfounded the Springbok management.

Dwyer, the former 1991 World Cup-winning Australian coach, believes it would be "insane" not to use the advantage of a closed roof if the rain continues.

"I don't understand why they wouldn't want to close it because if they have that facility it would be completely insane to leave the roof open," said Dwyer. "If it does continue to rain, they must allow the roof to be shut.

"Really, they should do it before the game so that the pitch remains dry. It would be crazy of them not to take advantage of this."

Lawrence Dallaglio, the London Wasps captain, leads a Baabaas side containing four members of the Australian World Cup-winning team that triumphed on the same pitch against France last year. The match gives Brian O'Driscoll, the young Ireland centre, an early chance to stake a claim for the Lions tour to Australia next summer.

Every Barbarian try scored on Sunday will raise £300 for youth rugby in the Home Unions through the Amicable Gesture. To date, Scottish Amicable has donated £123,900 to youth rugby.
