Ecclestone: No say over Mosley role

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has maintained he is "happy" with under-pressure FIA president Max Mosley - but insists his future is in his own hands.

Mosley's position is coming under intense scrutiny, with the 67-year-old seemingly hanging on by a thread to his job following lurid revelations about his private life in the News of the World.

Yet Ecclestone, the most powerful man in world motorsport, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm happy with Max. He will know what he needs to do - he is the president of the FIA, he is the one who will decide what goes on in the FIA, not me."

With Mosley in the firing line, two of the world's major motoring organisations have added to the groundswell of negativity being generated against him.

Dutch motorsport federation KNAF have confirmed they will vote against Mosley at an extraordinary general assembly hearing of the FIA, which is due to take place within the next few weeks.

"Because of his high-profile position, this can't be accepted," said KNAF president Arie Ruitenbeek.

"I have not received my invitation yet (to the FIA meeting), but we will go and will vote for him to resign."

The Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club have asked Mosley to "reconsider his role" in the hope he might stand down prior to the meeting.

Their statement read: "The role of an FIA president, who represents more than 100 million motorists worldwide, should not be burdened by such an affair.

"Therefore, we ask the president to very carefully reconsider his role within the organisation."
