England reward trio

England trio Tim Bresnan, Chris Tremlett and Eoin Morgan have been handed central contracts for the first time.

All three were members of England's Ashes-winning squad this winter and have been rewarded by the England and Wales Cricket Board with their elevation to the elite 13-man list.

Paul Collingwood, who retired from Test cricket following the Ashes, is the only player demoted, while Ajmal Shahzad, who also toured Australia for the Test series, is not included.

"I am delighted that Tim Bresnan, Eoin Morgan and Chris Tremlett have all been awarded 12-month central contracts for the first time," said national selector Geoff Miller.

"Central contracts are designed to reward players who perform well consistently for England, and all three have made significant contributions to the team's recent success in retaining the Ashes in Australia and beating Sri Lanka and India at home.

"Following his retirement from Test cricket, Paul Collingwood is no longer eligible for a 12-month central contract."

Bresnan and Tremlett both played key roles in the Ashes success with the ball.

While Morgan did not play a Test during the series, he has become arguably England's best batsman in the limited-overs format.

The ECB also announced that it would determine players to be placed on incremental contracts "in due course".
