Everton's Barton bid fails

Everton manager David Moyes has admitted that Joey Barton was a transfer target but Manchester City have told him the midfielder is not for sale.

Moyes spoke to City counterpart Stuart Pearce about Barton and was warned off the 24-year-old.

Moyes told evertonfc.com: "I can confirm that we have made an enquiry for Joey Barton. However, Manchester City made it clear he was not for sale and we respect the wishes of the club and Stuart Pearce."
