Faldo wants four in a row

12 April 2012

Just minutes after Europe sealed victory at the K Club, Nick Faldo was thinking about his Ryder Cup captaincy at Valhalla in 2008.

"Can I have 12 wild-cards and just take this team over?" joked Faldo. "Just give them a cat's lick, some deodorant and clean shirts and just start over!

Ian Woosnam led the home side to an unprecedented third straight victory as Ireland hosted the Ryder Cup for the first time, equalling the record victory margin of nine points set at Oakland Hills two years ago.

The Welshman was quick to hand the baton on to his former cup team-mate to try to make it four in a row, and Faldo added: "I do like a bit of pressure but let's enjoy this one first.

"I will quietly go away (but) I don't have to think of much of a game plan. These guys love this week so much, they are so passionate about it.

"Passion is the best word in sport and this event just drags the passion out of you like nothing else. We talk and speculate all week but once the players get to Friday they are as happy as sandboys."

Faldo, the record points scorer in the contest with 25 from his 11 appearances, added on Sky Sports: "We have won every series, which is unprecedented.

"We talked about winning four-and-a-half points from the singles but they went out with the right attitude to win as many points as possible and add them up at the end of the day."
