Fans rush to see Lewis at Silverstone

12 April 2012

The exploits of Lewis Hamilton mean the British Grand Prix is heading for a sell-out, with only grandstand tickets remaining.

The Silverstone website and British Grand Prix booking line were inundated on Monday, following the 22-year-old Briton's triumph in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix which moves him eight points clear in the drivers' championship.

General access fan tickets for the July 8 event have sold out and Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Ltd, said: "The reaction to Lewis' win in Canada has been amazing."

He added: "We haven't seen this level of interest since (Nigel) Mansell-mania in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

"If we continue at this rate, the event will almost definitely sell out in advance."
