Five in a row for Gail

13 April 2012

Gail Devers is heading for her fifth Olympics next month after winning the women's 100m hurdles at the US trials in Sacramento.

The 37-year-old won her 10th US title in a time of 12.55sec. Joanna Hayes, who won her semi-final in 12.50sec, was second in the final.

Allyson Felix is on the way to Athens as the youngest member of the US athletics team.

The 18-year-old won the women's 200m final in a season's best 22.28sec. Torri Edwards, who finished third and last week qualified for the 100m team, will today face a hearing into her positive test for the stimulant nikethamide.

Edwards insists the drug was taken inadvertently. If she receives the expected two-year ban her place in the 200m will go to fourth-placed LaShaunte'a Moore.

Gold medal favourite Allen Johnson only just made it into the Athens line-up by finishing third in the 400m hurdles final.

The Atlanta 1996 gold medallist and four-times world champion cruised through his qualifying heats but struggled in the final to keep pace with Sydney silver medallist Terrence Trammell, who set a personal best of 13.09 sec, and Duane Ross, with a season's best 13.21sec.
