AFC Wimbledon ordered to display MK Dons full name during EFL Cup clash

No more | Wimbledon have been ordered to display the name of rivals MK Dons in full

AFC Wimbledon will have to refer to fierce rivals MK Dons by their correct name when the two meet in August's EFL Cup first round.

In previous meetings at Wimbledon's Kingsmeadow ground, MK Dons, formed in 2004 following the relocation of the old club to Milton Keynes, were only referred to as 'MK' on scoreboards and by the name of the town inside the programme, with their name omitted from the cover.

The EFL have been mediating between the two clubs since April 2018, after Wimbledon were charged with misconduct towards their rivals the previous December.

Those charges were dropped after initial progress between the two rivals.

After further discussions between the clubs, the EFL confirmed that when the two meet on August 13, Wimbledon must adhere to conditions which include displaying "the name of the MK Dons on the website, match tickets, match programmes, teamsheets and scoreboard (as applicable) in a manner that is consistent with all other teams that visit."

EFL Executive Chair, Debbie Jevans, said: “I would like to thank all those involved for their continued support in what is clearly an emotive situation, not only for supporters but for all those associated with both Clubs.

"We will continue to work with both our members, with the ambition of securing a long-term positive outcome that we know both parties are eager to achieve."
