Arsenal slumped to a shock defeat as Aston Villa ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Emirates Stadium.

Simon Collings was at the Emirates to run the rule over Arteta’s squad…

Arsenal player ratings

 Bernd Leno 5

Made a brilliant save to deny Jack Grealish from scoring in the second-half. Could do nothing about any of Villa’s goals.

Rob Holding 4

Struggled to cope with Jack Grealish, who was a threat all night cutting in from the left side.

Gabriel Magalhaes 5

Been one of Arsenal’s best players this season but struggled to handle Ollie Watkins, who scored twice.

Kieran Tierney 5 | Star man

Probably just about Arsenal’s best player, but that’s hardly anything to shout about on a miserable night for the Gunners.

Hector Bellerin 5

Like Tierney, created the best of any openings Arsenal could conjure up - but struggled to deal with Grealish.

Thomas Partey 5

Like the whole Arsenal team he struggled in the first-half, but was one of the better players. Came off at half-time due to injury.

Mohamed Elneny 5

Was one of the stars of the show at Old Trafford last week, but failed to deliver as Aston Villa ran out winners.

Bukayo Saka 4

A rare off night for the teenager, who is usually so consistent. Difficult game was summed up by his own-goal in the first-half.

Willian 3

A night to forget for the Brazilian. Gave the ball away on several occasions and missed a great chance in the second-half.

Alexandre Lacazette 4

Another frustrating night for the Frenchman, who missed a good chance when Tierney’s cross picked him out in the first-half.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 5

Struggling for form at the moment and barely had a sniff all game. Time to start playing him through the middle?

Substitutes

Dani Ceballos (Partey 45’) 5

Came on at the break and tried to get things going in midfield, but struggled like his team-mates did.

Nicolas Pepe (Willian 65’) 5

Was bright and lively after coming on and flashed an effort just wide of the post after cutting in from the right.

Eddie Nketiah (Lacazette 65’) 5

Tried to come and grab an equaliser but made little impact as Arsenal slumped to defeat.

Subs not used: Runarsson, Maitland-Niles, Luiz, Xhaka.
