Arsenal player ratings vs Leeds: Ainsley Maitland-Niles stars in Carabao Cup win but Nicolas Pepe frustrates again

Arsenal booked themselves a place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Leeds.

Simon Collings was at Emirates Stadium to see Arsenal in action...

Bernd Leno 7

In for Aaron Ramsdale and gave a good account of himself. Made fine saves in the first half to deny Dan James and Jack Harrison.

Cedric Soares 6

A solid job from the Portugal international, who got forward when he could. Defensively he was solid and didn’t really do much wrong.

Ben White 8

Was arguably Arsenal’s best player before he had to come off after 55 minutes and any injury will be a real blow. Carried the ball out of defence so well.

Rob Holding 7

Looked comfortable playing alongside White in defence. Carried the ball out nicely and did a solid job in the absence of Gabriel.

Sead Kolasinac 6

A few dicey moments, but overall he was fine. Clearly a level below Nuno Tavares, though, and even finished the game at centre-back.

Mohamed Elneny 5

Worked his socks off, as always, but in possession he struggled. Feels like Maitland-Niles is now ahead of him in the pecking order.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles 8 | Star man

One of the midfielder’s best games for Arsenal in recent memory. Won the ball well and he was good in possession too.

Nicolas Pepe 5

The Ivorian finished the game with an assist, but this was a frustrating performance from him. Really struggled with his final ball.

Emile Smith Rowe 6

Not the fireworks he produced on Friday night against Aston Villa. His game was just a bit off and Leeds kept him quiet.

Gabriel Martinelli 6

Got better as the game went on, but he still doesn’t look like himself right now. Feels like he could do with a loan in January.

Eddie Nketiah 7

Looked fairly sharp given his lack of minutes. Pressed really well and got his reward with a goal in the second half.

Subs

Calum Chambers (White 55’) 7

Came off the bench and scored with his first touch of the game. A nice cameo at centre-back.

Albert Sambi Lokonga (Elneny 71’) 5

Came on to keep things ticking in midfield, but had little time to make an impact.

Alexandre Lacazette (Lacazette 71’) 5

Brought on to play as a No10 but had little time to make his mark.

Nuno Tavares (Holding 76’) N/A

Subs not used: Ramsdale, Partey, Saka, Oulad M’Hand, Balogun.
