Arsenal stars Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mikel Arteta respond to Twitter trolls

A trio of Arsenal players have teamed up with bookmaker PaddyPower to bite back at Twitter trolls.

As part of the ‘Ball of Shame’ series, Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mikel Arteta spent an afternoon at the Arsenal training centre responding to mean tweets from fans.

Unaware his message would spark a response from the Gunners defender, Reading supporter Mitchel Cooper remarked: “I reckon milk turns quicker than Per Mertesacker.”

So the Germany international set about proving there’s life in his 29-year-old legs, while Lukas Podolski hit a barn door to answer his critic.

Despite pointing out Twitter-user Sam Kaye had misspelled his name, Podolski eventually found the target at the fifth time of asking.

Meanwhile, Southampton fan and Joe Wilson suggested his Grandma could take a better spot-kick than Spaniard Mikel Arteta.

But the 32-year-old’s composed effort from 18 yards was never going to be matched by a dribbling strike ‘Nana Wilson’.
