Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Arsenal target Kylian Mbappe will go on to become one of the greatest players in the world as he revealed Los Blancos are "following" the young Monaco striker.

Mbappe, 18, scored an impressive 26 goals in all competitions for Ligue 1 winners Monaco last season, which resulted in Arsenal seeing a mammoth £87million bid for the forward rejected earlier this month.

Real Madrid also saw an offer - worth an eye-watering £105million - turned down by Monaco for Mbappe but Perez has confirmed the club have continued to keep a close eye on his situation in France.

When asked by Spanish radio station Onda Cero whether Real want to sign Mbappe this summer, Perez replied: "[Zinedine] Zidane saw him when he was 16 years old. Zidane liked him a lot.

"We weren't on the edge of signing him, because of his age. If it's a community player he can get to the club from 16 years and if not a community player, starting at 18.

"Mbappe has some very good ways and surely he'll become one of the greatest.

"We are following him, of course."
