Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has urged Mikel Arteta to "take a gamble" in the transfer window and fire the club back into the Champions League.
Arteta has steadied the ship since being installed as the permanent successor to Unai Emery in December, leading the club to the FA Cup semi-final and overseeing an uptick in performances in the Premier League - especially since the restart.
However, the Gunners could still miss out on European football altogether next season for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign, while the future of leading marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains up in the air.
Keeping Aubameyang will be key to their hopes of returning to the top table of European football after four seasons away, but Parlour says the club must also invest in quality additions over the summer.
The 47-year-old told SunSport: "Arteta is the right man to take the club forward and you have to take a gamble to get better players.
"The problem will be attracting the players. They have to sell the club.
"Investment will be very important. To get back into the Champions League, which is massive revenue, it probably takes a bit of a gamble. More quality of players.
"Football is all about money now.
"To have any chance to break back in the top four you have to spend money.
