Besiktas vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi has confirmed that his side are interested in Arsenal reserve goalkeeper David Ospina.

The Colombian international has not played since a disastrous error against Olympiakos left Arsenal’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

The Turkish giants have enjoyed an impressive start to their season and currently sit top of the Super Lig, one point ahead of Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce.

However the goalkeeping position remains an issue for Besiktas, with two mistakes from incumbent between the sticks Tolga Zengin seeing Sporting knock Senol Gunes’ side out of the Europa League. And the club’s vice-president admitted they were looking for an upgrade in that position.

Cebi told Beyaz TV: “We are interested in Ospina and goalkeepers of his calibre but just because we want him does not mean he will come.

“We have to agree with his club and take his contract into consideration.”

Ospina overtook Wojciech Szczesny, now on loan in Serie A with Roma, to become Arsenal’s number one for the second half of last season.

However the signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer has seen Ospina once more drop down to the bench. He has played just three games for his club this season, fewer than he has appeared in for the Colombian national team.
