Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has insisted that Yaya Sanogo wants to join the Ligue 1 side on loan, despite Arsene Wenger’s desire that the Arsenal striker remains in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old has not featured for Arsenal since their 4-1 victory over Galatasaray at the start of December - making just six appearances so far this season – and Wenger admitted that the forward could leave on loan during the January transfer window.
Lukas Podolski completed his loan move to Inter Milan on Monday, and Wenger admitted that, should Sanogo also leave, he would prefer he stayed in the Premier League.
"Sanogo is a goal scorer and he is not frightened,” Wenger told reporters. “He is a guy who is naturally aggressive and in the modern game that is a vital quality."
"It is a possibility [he will go out on loan], and I would prefer him to go to a Premier League club.”
But Bordeaux have made no secret of their desire to bolster their attacking options following the four-month layoff to top scorer Cheick Diabate, and are keen to bring the former Auxerre man back to France.
Speaking to Bordeaux radio station, Gold FM, Triaud reaffirmed the club’s interest and confirmed that they have made an approach for the Arsenal man.
"Sanogo has chosen Bordeaux," Triaud told Gold FM. "We expect a response from Arsenal on Tuesday or Wednesday."
