Arsenal's newest signing Gabriel Martinelli has set his sights high after claiming that he models his game on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Martinelli, 18, has joined the Gunners on a long-term contract from Sao Paolo-based club Ituano.

The young forward made waves in Brazil to earn a call-up to the Selecao national squad for a pre-Copa America training camp.

Martinelli will now join up with Unai Emery's squad for pre-season training, though it remains to be seen whether the youngster will be sent on loan or afforded an opportunity to make an immediate impac for the Gunners.

While Arsenal fans may have to wait to see Martinelli in full flow, the forward - who scored 10 goals in 34 games for Ituano - has given fans an early of the style of play he intends to bring to north London.

Asked about his footballing inspirations, Martinelli told the club's website: "I model my game on Cristiano Ronaldo, he is a player who works hard, pushing himself to the next level. Always in the run for titles and individual trophies.

"I look up to Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar as they are players who can decide games and are very professional, who dedicate themselves to the whole game.

"I am a player who gives his all at all times, I play as a team and always looking to win games and win trophies."

Regarding his move to Arsenal, Martinelli said: "It is a dream since I was a child and also my family’s dream for me to be playing in Europe and playing for a big team like Arsenal. I am going to take this opportunity.

"]Putting on the Arsenal shirt for the first time]... a very big moment, I am very grateful for everything, I am grateful to God and I will try to make the most out of it."

Martinelli follows in the footsteps of compatriots Edu, Denilson and Gilberto Silva in joining Arsenal.

Speaking about the history of Selecao stars playing for the Gunners, he said: "I know Edu, Denilson and I know that they have a lot of history at the club.

"Edu, in particular, I had a little contact with him at Corinthians as I had a spell there and I know they had a lot of success here but also for the national team. I am going to try to follow the same route."

With Brazil coach Tite rating Martinelli highly enough to include him in the Selecao's training camp ahead of Copa America, the young forward added: "It was an amazing feeling, a dream come true, being able to be beside great players.
