Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal just missed out on a deal to sign French star Kingsley Coman in 2014.

The 19-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s best wingers since signing on loan for Bayern Munich from Juventus during the summer, pressuring Arjen Robben and Douglas Costa for a place in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Coman had only moved to Italy in the summer of 2014 but Arsenal came close to completing his signing before the player chose to remain on the continent.

“We really tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014,” Wenger told beIN sports.

“The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred Juventus.”

The youngster made just 20 appearances in his first season in Turin but since moving to Allianz Arena Coman has dramatically improved his game, scoring four goals and assisting seven in 13 games to earn a place in the France national squad.

Bayern paid £5 million to bring the youngster in on loan and have an agreement to pay Juventus £16 million should they wish to make the deal permanent.
