Arsene Wenger believes Mesut Ozil is back to his best after inspiring Arsenal to a 5-2 win over Everton.

The German, who has faced criticism for his performances of late, scored one and assisted another as the Gunners came from behind to pile the pressure on Ronald Koeman.

Wenger feels Ozil is reaping the rewards of being match fit after nursing an inflamed knee and being struck down by the flu in recent weeks.

When asked if Mesut Ozil was back to his best, Wenger told Sky Sports: "I would say yes. I told him after the game that a fit Ozil is completely different. If you're not 100% at your best, no matter how good you are, you are at a handicap."

Ozil finished off a blistering counterattack, heading home Alexis Sanchez's cross, to give Arsenal the lead before finding Alexandre Lacazette 15 yards from goal to put the game beyond Everton.

Aaron Ramsey, assisted by Jack Wilshere, and Alexis Sanchez scored in injury time and Wenger was pleased with his team's reaction to going behind to Wayne Rooney's fine opener from distance.

He added: "We should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up, but we were 1-0 down. We didn't panic and maintained our focus. Once we equalised, it was all us for the rest of the game.

"I was [concerned] because recently we've been punished for every mistake we make away from home. But I knew there was a long time to go. Our away performances this season have not been rewarded."
