Brentford today revealed that owner Matthew Benham has invested £15.2million in the club since taking over in June last year.

That figure does not include the money he spent to purchase the land located at Lionel Road South where Brentford plan to build a new 15,000-20,000 seater stadium for the start of the 2016-17 season.

Benham is a lifelong Bees fans and the importance of his investment is shown by the club’s financial figures for the year ending June 30, 2012.

Brentford reported a £5m loss and their wage bill has increased by 20 per cent from the previous year and is now over £5m.

Chairman Greg Dyke (above) said: “Matthew agrees with the board annually how much he is willing to inject and the board then adopts a budget for the coming season. This includes how much we are willing to spend on the playing budget.”

Brentford are expected to make £1m from their FA Cup run.

Uwe Rosler’s side face Chelsea in a fourth-round replay at Stamford Bridge next month after drawing 2-2 at Griffin Park on Sunday.
