Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery's season could be over after he suffered a serious knee injury at the weekend.

The 34-year-old injured his left knee in the 2-2 draw at Hertha Berlin on Sunday and scans have shown he has suffered a lateral knee ligament (LCL) tear.

The managerless Bundesliga club tweeted: "Breaking: @FranckRibery has suffered an LCL tear in his left knee. Get well soon, Franck! #ComeBackStronger #MiaSanMia"

Bayern have confirmed that the France international has already begun his rehabilitation.

Speaking after the match, it was obvious Ribery feared the worst.

"I'm in a lot of pain,” he said. “The outer ligament is probably damaged. I hope it's not any worse than that."

The news represents a second major injury blow for Bayern, who will already be without captain ain star goalkeeper Manuel Neuer sidelined until January.

The 31-year-old underwent surgery last month after breaking his left foot in training.
