Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham has won the EFL Young Player of the Month award after starting his season-long loan spell at Bristol City in blistering form.

The 19-year-old made two Premier League appearances for his parent club last term but joined City in an effort to receive regular game time.

And the striker has certainly made his mark in the West Country, scoring a total of 11 goals in 16 appearances for Lee Johnson's side.

Abraham is delighted with how he has coped in the Championship and believes Johnson's faith has been key to his development.

“I’m very pleased. When you have a coach that believes in you and a good crowd supporting you it gives you so much confidence going into games," he told the EFL website.

“As soon as I came here I was made to feel welcome and I have a really good bond with the lads. I have a love for the game and always want to do my best.”

Abraham's eye has also caught the eye of current Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

The Italian could give Abraham a place in his first-team squad next season and has backed the teenager to play a part in the Blues' future.

“I saw him only one week during the pre-season in America. Then we decided to send him to play every game and get experience, then come back for us.

“He has great potential in the technical and physical aspects. I think the academy is working very well," added Conte.
