Chelsea are expected to complete the £53 million signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and according to a new study, Frank Lampard's side will be getting a bargain.
The 24-year-old is thought to be close to agreeing a five-year-deal worth £200,000-a-week with the Blues prepared to trigger his release clause, which is understood to be £53m.
As well as getting one over their rivals, with Liverpool and Manchester City both showing an interest in Werner, Chelsea are saving themselves £30m by striking a deal now, according to the CIES Football Observatory's latest transfer report.
The study claims Werner is valued at around £80.5m, which appears to be a fair reflection of one of Europe's most prolific strikers who has scored 31 goals in all competitions this season.
While Leipzig have been left somewhat hamstrung by the release clause in his deal and would have surely negotiated a higher fee otherwise, the west London club will be delighted to secure the Germany international for a below-market price fee.
Since signing Fernando Torres in 2011, Chelsea have only ever paid more than £50m for a player on four occasions according to reported fees: Kepa Arrizabalaga (£71m in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao), Christian Pulisic (£58.4m from Borussia Dortmund), Alvaro Morata (£58m from Real Madrid) and Jorginho (£57m from Napoli).

While a case could certainly be made that the Blues paid a premium for some - if not all - of those players, the opposite could be true with their capture of Werner.
Chelsea have already wrapped up a £37.4m deal to land Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in 2020.
