Chelsea full-back Abdul Baba Rahman has joined Schalke on a season-long loan.

Just a year after joining from Augsburg in a £21.7m deal Baba Rahman will return to the Bundesliga after being deemed surplus to immediate requirements by new manager Antonio Conte.

The 22-year-old started just 11 games for the Blues last season, struggling to make an impression on Jose Mourinho in the first half of the season and being substituted at half-time in a game against Southampton in February when his error had gifted Shane Long a goal.

Though Baba Rahman has returned to the Bundesliga Standard Sport reported on Monday that the Ghana left-back will still have a future under Conte, who expects him to develop more if he returns to Germany.

Baba Rahman has already joined Schalke’s pre-season training camp in Austria, where he will also meet up with Sevilla right-back Coke, who the German side confirmed is expected to join after completing his medical.
